More than $250,000 in drugs seized

ST. CHARLES – Two men remained in jail Thursday after police seized more than $250,000 in cocaine and marijuana from their North Aurora apartment.

Juan A. Bolado, 29, and Alfredo Guerrero, 45, were arrested Wednesday following a police search of their apartment in the 200 block of Laurel Drive.

More than 1 kilogram of cocaine and more than 200 pounds of marijuana was seized at the home by Sheriff's police, North Aurora police and agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Kelly Orland said both are facing 15 to 60 years in prison.

"The lead count is the most serious, possession of cocaine with intent to deliver," Orland said. "It's a large amount of drugs and that is obviously why there is a severe penalty involved and it usually follows a large amount of drugs being distributed. This is not a couple grams. A kilo is 1,000 grams, it weighs 2.2 pounds. We are alleging this is more than personal use."

Orland said Guerrero is in the U.S. illegally, which is why the immigration enforcement is involved.

Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said he could not disclose what led police to obtain the search warrant for the apartment.

Bolado and Guerrero each are charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Bolado's bail was set at $750,000 and Guerrero was denied bail. They are scheduled to appear in court later this month.

Sheriff Pat Perez pointed out that the investigation's success relied on the cooperation of law enforcement at the local and national level.
