North Charleston Police are investigating a brutal beating involving two suspects who they say attacked another man with a hammer and baseball bat.

Police say Ivan Garcia claimed to be in an Hispanic gang.

He, along with Luis Perez, are charged in the beating of Gabino Ramirez- Perez.

The gang situation is something North Charleston Police say they watch closely, not just in the Hispanic community, but across the board.

They say it is one part of a larger issue, crime within the growing Hispanic population and the lack of reporting it.

"They don't feel like they can trust the police and they become victims of crime," says North Charleston Police Spokesperson Spencer Pryor.

"So we try and encourage everyone to call us because we don't want anyone living or working in our city to simply be victims of crime and not report it."

Pryor says they investigate more crime against Hispanics than they do crimes committed by them.

Tuesday night, North Charleston Police will hold a workshop for the Hispanic community at 7:30 p.m. at the New Covenant Church of God on Ashley Phosphate Road.

ok, and this part jumps out at me: Pryor says they investigate more crime against Hispanics than they do crimes committed by them.

Is he saying that there are more crimes committed against hispanics than by hispanics? In the article, the crimes committed were by hispanics, to hispanics?
