CA:Failed Immigrant Farm Worker Bill Could Rebound This Fall

Failed Immigrant Farm Worker Bill Could Rebound This Fall

Both California Senators backed the immigration reform bill that failed on the Senate floor on Thursday. But Democrat Dianne Feinstein says she'll still push for legal status for immigrant farm workers. Todd Zwillich has more from Capitol Hill.

The reform bill would have cleared the way for more seasonal farm laborers to legally work. That provision died along with the mammoth bill's dozens of other provisions.

But Feinstein says agricultural areas like San Diego and Imperial Counties still need immigration reform. She has a bill that would legalize AG workers who have been in the U.S. for at least two years. It would also set up guest worker visas for farm workers.

Feinstein: I think because of the harvest coming up and the fact that AG labor is way down now, that we need to do this bill.

Congress is due to reauthorize a farm bill this fall. Feinstein says she could try to tack her AG workers bill onto that measure.

From Capitol Hill, Todd Zwillich, KPBS News.

If farms are small then maybe they could use guest workers but the big farms that are owned by multi-million profit makers and ran by multi-million dollar CEOs need to have to pay benefits and a fair wage for americans or automate.

The cheap labor scam is a joke. Here are some good articles to rebutt this crap from the AG business. Please feel free to distribute these articles to your local radios, newspapers, etc.
