Hispanics in southern Indiana fear bill targeting undocumented immigrants

    March 27, 2011

    Ben Zion Hershberg

Raul Avila’s family has run a Mexican grocery and restaurant in Clarksville for the past five years, building a livelihood on supplying familiar foods and brands to the area’s many Hispanics.

But Avila worries his family could lose that business if the Indiana legislature passes a bill requiring police to verify the citizenship or immigration status of people they stop and suspect may be illegal immigrants.

Such a law would “really affect all the Hispanic business,â€

    Raul Avila,
We all know that your problems are not something you chose. However, the US is a country made up of laws and us Americans are tired of being pushed around, called names and other things because we are tired of people illegally being in our country.
Now, I know that if the majority of the people in the area were not of your ethnic background, you would not be saying anything about it. But since they are, you have to understand there are consequences to everyone who breaks a law.
Deal with it and move on

Exactly. It's also like the public schools complaining that their enrollment is going down or hospitals complaining that their emergency rooms are no longer over-flowing or states whining that they don't have as many unemployed to pay benefits to any more. To those of US who pay for it, we want school enrollments and unemployment to go down, and what could be better than empty emergency rooms?!!

Get these people out of our country, by all means necessary, whatever it takes.

Business and civic officials throughout Indiana said they fear the legislation, Senate Bill 590, would halt the economic and population gains Hispanics have brought to the state over the past decade
How about the flip side of that coin? It would halt the millions paid in foodstamps, medicare and WIC payments for those same people! It would free up jobs desperately needed.

They worry over the Federal money they won't be able to squander if the invaders leave... all the while expecting the taxpayers to support them. Sorry, WE THE PEOPLE are sick of it!

Those who lack some of their immigration documents would fear deportation, he said, while legal immigrants would resent the possibility of being stopped and questioned simply because of their ethnicity or inability to speak English well.
Since when is this a bad thing? I like the analogy marquis made regarding drug dealers complaining their customers are going clean. I would tweak it slightly to say it's akin to a drug dealer complaining that cops are actually enforcing the law, resulting in his customers being arrested and or "scared away" and no longer able to purchase his product!

This is exactly what these businesses that cater to illegal invaders are doing! Complaining they will be driven out of business if we actually dare to enforce immigration law in this country.

Amazing that any news paper would even give these people the time of day, but since most MSM outlets are champions of the illegal invader, it continues to happen.
