ROCK HILL, S.C. --Authorities say an illegal immigrant charged in a hit-and-run accident that killed a Rock Hill teen will be deported.

Authorities say 15-year-old Christopher Lanier died Friday after he crossed the center line on a dirt bike, and a truck ran over him.

Thirty-year-old Santiago Solis of Rock Hill was charged Saturday with leaving the scene of an accident involving a death and driving without a license. York County Sheriff Bruce Bryant said Monday a federal identity check found that Solis is in the country illegally.

Bryant told The Herald of Rock Hill that Solis will be turned over to federal immigration officials for deportation to Mexico after dealing with the hit-and-run charges here.

York County is among roughly 40 agencies nationwide using a federal program on immigration enforcement.
