Immigrant rights activist likely to be deported herself after hiding her status

The last thing anyone in the immigrant activist community would have expected was that Wendy Uruchi Contreras would be arrested and potentially deported.
On May 28, the community organizer for Casa, a national immigrants rights organization based in Maryland, was stopped by police and arrested for a DUI after having had two margaritas at a restaurant. Her blood alcohol was twice the legal limit for driving.
Her arrest sent a shockwave through the activist community, with petitions from organizations such as Change.org being filed to stop her deportation.
Uruchi’s attorney, Enid Gonzalez, told Fox News Latino her team filed for a “stay of removal” with the Department of Homeland Security on Friday.
“Her case is very unusual," Gonzalez said. "Since she came to the U.S. on a visa waiver" – which allows visitors from 38 countries to stay for up to 90 days without a visa – "she automatically waived any possible effort to block removal from the country.”
Gonzalez added, “Had she come in undocumented, she'd have a strong defense for cancellation for removal, because of her children. She’d meet those requirements.”
The decision on her stay of removal could take a day or six weeks. If immigration authorities recommend granting it, she’ll likely have a year to remain in the U.S., and Gonzalez says immigration officials keep very close tabs on people in those circumstances.
Uruchi didn’t start her career as an activist very long ago. According to the Washington Post, she met some employees from Casa a few years ago at an event at the Salvadoran Embassy, and she began going to events, then organizing them. In 2014, she was hired full-time as a Virginia community organizer.
Uruchi spent the last two years helping undocumented immigrants fight their deportations, without ever revealing her own status.
“Wendy helped me so much,” Liliana Mendez told the Post. Mendez, 26, was about to be deported back to El Salvador because of a traffic accident when she came into Casa wearing an ankle monitor and looking for help. Uruchi organized a news conference with a congressman, and, within days, Mendez’s deportation was stayed and the monitor was removed.
Uruchi was born in Bolivia but was raised in Madrid, Spain.
She came to the U.S. to meet her husband Giovani Jimenez, whom she met online. She was leaving in Spain behind intense abuse at the hands of her stepfather.
She and Jimenez were married and now have two children, Lucia, 7, and Alex, 13.
"It's been very difficult," Jimenez told Fox News Latino via e-mail. "The kids are seeing a counselor in order to deal with this process. It’s been very difficult for Alex particularly, because he now has insomnia. He wakes up in the middle of the night to see I'm still at home. He seems to be afraid of losing his other parent."
The choice to drive away from that restaurant in Woodbridge, Maryland, Uruchi acknowledged to the Post, “was the worst decision of my life.”
When she and her husband appeared in court, their DUI attorney encouraged her to take a deal with the prosecutor – one day in jail if she pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor. Then she told the attorney she was undocumented. He told her not to worry.
Two days later, on July 7, she was sent to “Prosperity,” the Homeland Security complex named after the avenue on which it sits.
U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials grilled her about her husband’s citizenship status. She confessed that he, too, is undocumented.
Jimenez says Alex does not want to move to Spain if his mother is deported. "He does not want to leave his friends, family or his entire life. There is no plan in case Wendy is deported."

Deport them all. STOP saying that children of illegal aliens are US citizens. JUST STOP IT. They are NOT US citizens. They weren't when they were born and they aren't now. JUST STOP THE INSANITY of believing that our brilliant writers of the 14th Amendment intended for illegal aliens to breed US citizens, when the 14th Amendment was written for the children of freed slaves whose parents weren't citizens when they were born because they were SLAVES.
The absolute insanity, the total absurdity, of "anchor baby" citizenship is mind-blowing and is making blood want to come pouring out of my "whatever" ... and yes that means my head. It's stupid people who can't get a comment like that right, who work for government and decide "yeah sure, illegal aliens can breed US citizens in a country they aren't even supposed to be in".
Like Trump says, STOP BEING STUPID PEOPLE.
GET SMART!!
VOTE FOR DONALD J TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND END THIS NONSENSE ONCE AND FOR ALL!!
Oh and to Alex, your family is more important than your friends. Spain is a beautiful country, you'll love it. You would have to leave your friends behind if you were an Army Brat, or your father or mother had to move to a new location for work. American children deal with this every day, so get over it and go to Spain.Last edited by Judy; 10-02-2016 at 05:47 AM.

Activist for illegal aliens deported for drunk driving
January 26, 2017
By Ed Straker
Wendy Uruchi Contreras was a passionate advocate for illegal aliens. At least, she was passionate until she was deported. You see, Wendy herself was an illegal alien, and she was deported for drunk driving. Her family thinks this is very unfair.
"We are devastated," said her husband, Giovani Jimenez, who lives in Fredericksburg, Va., with their American-born children, Alex, 13, and Lucia, 7. "My children are crying, but we know there's nothing more we can do."
In her appeal, Uruchi asked prosecutors to show discretion in her case, essentially weighing her community activism and otherwise clean record against the danger of her committing another offense.
Should illegal aliens who advocate for other lawbreaking illegal aliens be excused from further lawbreaking because of their work advocating the illegal behavior of others?
"They focused on one thing, that she got that DUI, and it was like they forgot about everything on the other side of the scale," said Enid Gonzalez, Uruchi's immigration attorney.
Uruchi came to the United States from Spain in 2002 under the United States' visa waiver program[.] ... At the end of her three months, Uruchi decided to stay illegally in America with Jimenez rather than return to Madrid, where she feared an abusive stepfather.
There's always a reason! Perhaps, on her application to visit America, she should have said, "I promise to return at the end of my legal stay, unless I fear my abusive stepfather."
Jimenez [who is also an illegal alien] said he and the kids would stay in the United States until at least the end of the school year. He held out hope that his wife somehow would be allowed to return quickly. If not, he said, then he, Alex and Lucia would move to Madrid this summer.
So the story has a happy ending after all! We wish Wendy and Giovanni well, and would like to give a shout to all people driving in the area of Madrid to be on the lookout for Wendy, especially during happy hour.

Those American born children. They use them skillfully to anchor themselves whenever possible. Good to know they will all be together in Spain.
Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Whether you or I agree with it, unfortunately birthright citizenship is current law. For the record, I fully support the ending of birthright citizenship!

It's not uncertain. Any and every President can uphold the US Constitution as written, stated and intended. If your parents can seek asylum in a foreign Consulate or Embassy in the United States, then you were not born subject to the jurisdiction of the United States. US Naturalization Law says exactly the same thing as the US Constitution's 14th Amendment. No anchor baby has either the protection of US law or the US Constitution. That's just a fact.
This nonsense started with a practice, is still a practice, and will always be a practice until someone changes the practice and stops handing out US Passports and Social Security numbers to children of illegal aliens. I think we've just elected the person who will change that practice and bring some common sense back to our stupid, incompetent, corrupt government.
It would be nice if Congress would pass the law to end this stupid practice, maybe now they will. I sure hope so.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

All non-citizens who give birth on US soil whether here on vacation, a Visa, here illegally or otherwise should receive a "Certificate of Child Born Abroad".
No US Birth Certificate, No citizenship, No eligibility for government benefits.
They take that Certificate as proof of birth and apply for citizenship for the child in THEIR country.ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM
DO NOT REWARD THEM - DEPORT THEM ALL

You can argue and speculate all you want, but the facts remain as I provided:
Okay, let's forget for a minute that Amendment XIV, Section 1, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution directs that all persons born in the United States are U.S. citizens. The actual constitutional meaning of the amendment as it applies to children born to illegal immigrants will remain uncertain until the U.S. Supreme Court interprets it.
Now, with that said, let's not forget about federal statute, which also states that children born to illegals are U.S. citizens.
Whether you or I agree with it, unfortunately birthright citizenship is current law. For the record, I fully support the ending of birthright citizenship!"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

You are so bad on the facts, MW, I'm not wasting my time on your posts any more. If you want to post on this forum that you think anchor babies are legal citizens of the United States, HAVE AT IT.
