YUMA, Ariz. — U.S. Border Patrol agents have arrested nine alleged drug smugglers from Mexico and seized more than $213,000 worth of marijuana near the Colorado River.

A Yuma Sector communications specialist notified agents Tuesday morning that nine people, all carrying large bundles, had been observed walking toward the bridge near the Salinity Canal.

Agents arrived on the scene and say they found seven suspects with seven bundles of marijuana.

After an extensive search of the area, the agents found two other persons and three more bundles of marijuana.

Authorities say the 10 bundles of marijuana weighed 267 pounds and was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement along with the nine suspects.
