    Oct. 18, 2013 – Veteran "HEROs" join ICE efforts to bring child predators to justice

    Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Rand Beers joined U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director John Sandweg, U.S. Special Operations Command Director of the Care Coalition Kevin McDonnell and National Association to Protect Children Executive Director Grier Weeks in a swearing in ceremony Oct. 18 for 17 veterans – many of whom were wounded in the line of duty – as part of the inaugural class of Human Exploitation Rescue Operative Child Recue Corps, or HERO Corps. The HEROs completed seven weeks of training in computer forensic analysis and digital evidence collection at HSI's Cyber Crimes Center in Fairfax, Va., in order to help identify and rescue child victims of sexual abuse and online sexual exploitation. Prior to that, they attended four weeks of intensive training at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee where they learned about child exploitation cases and the federal and state criminal laws that they will be helping to enforce.     A Seattle man with a history of child exploitation was sentenced Oct. 18 to 151 months in prison and 20 years’ supervised release for possession of child pornography. Full Story

    A Dominican national living illegally in Alaska received the maximum sentence of 65 years in prison Oct. 17 for federal firearms violations, immigration benefit fraud and identity theft. Full Story

    Oct. 18, 2013 – West Texas man sentenced to 8 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography


    A west Texas man was sentenced Oct. 18 by U.S. District Judge Sam R. Cummings to 97 months in federal prison following his guilty plea in July to one count of possessing child pornography. Full Story

    Oct. 18, 2013 – North Texas woman sentenced to 6 years in federal prison for child sex-trafficking


    A north Texas woman was sentenced Oct. 16 to six years in federal prison following her guilty plea in June to one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor. Full Story

    More Than 20 Defendants Charged
    in City-Wide Drug Bust

    OCT 17 (INDIANAPOLIS)
    Jack Riley, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Field Division, of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Joseph H. Hogsett, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, announced today a city-wide operation that dismantled a massive drug trafficking organization in the Indianapolis area. The arrests are part of “Operation Five Dollar Footlong,” which targeted a group that allegedly imported thousands of pounds of marijuana into the city.
