U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: September 4 – September 10

(09/11/2008)Border Patrol agents seized over 4,513 pounds of marijuana valued at $5,403,510 and 229 pounds of cocaine valued at $7,340,800. Agents arrested 10 criminal aliens and 4 gang members. There were 11 rocking incidents.

Laredo Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 229 pounds of cocaine valued at $7,340,800 and a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier in Laredo, Texas. Agents noticed a vehicle which seemed out of place parked near a local warehouse. Upon seeing the agents, the driver of the vehicle sped away. Shortly thereafter, agents found the vehicle abandoned, and discovered three duffel bags filled with small bundles of cocaine inside the vehicle.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents rescued and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in Penitas, Texas. The subject jumped into the Rio Grande River in an attempt to evade arrest. The subject began to sink, cried out for help, and was extracted from the river by Border Patrol agents.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents rescued two illegal aliens from Mexico near Ak Chin, Arizona. Both subjects fell into distress and were left behind by the group they were traveling with. Agents located the
subjects and administered medical treatment. One of the subjects was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.

Tucson Sector - A Border Patrol agent was assaulted by an illegal alien from Mexico in Nogales, Arizona. Agents observed several suspected illegal aliens get into a vehicle near the International Boundary. The vehicle drove off and stopped at a nearby gas station. Agents approached the vehicle at the gas station, and the driver attempted to drive away, striking two Border Patrol vehicles in the process. The driver and four illegal aliens from Mexico were arrested.

Del Rio Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens from El Salvador near Eagle Pass, Texas. Both subjects were identified as members of the 18th Street gang.

El Paso Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject was previously deported from the U.S. and was a convicted sex offender in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 1,300 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,039,760 and a 1999 Dodge Ram near Abram, Texas. Agents performing line watch operations observed the vehicle traveling away from the Rio Grande River. As agents approached the vehicle, the driver exited the vehicle and absconded. The marijuana was found inside the abandoned vehicle.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the U.S. and was a convicted sex offender in Los Angeles, California.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Hidalgo, Texas. The subject admitted to being a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the U.S. and had an extensive criminal history.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents rescued an illegal alien from Mexico after he was found unconscious near Douglas, Arizona. The subject was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested three illegal aliens who claimed to have been robbed by six armed bandits near Tumacacori, Arizona.

El Centro Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 745 pounds of marijuana valued at $596,000 and recovered a stolen 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck near Calexico, California. Agents discovered tire tracks leading into the U.S. from Mexico and encountered the truck. The vehicle failed to yield to agents and a Controlled Tire Deflation Device (CTDD) was successfully deployed. The occupants of the vehicle absconded into the brush and evaded arrest. The marijuana was discovered in the abandoned vehicle.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents discovered a deceased male and two bundles (125 pounds) of marijuana in a wildlife refuge near Granjeno, Texas.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tombstone, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the U.S. and was a registered sex offender in New York City, New York.

El Centro Sector - A Border Patrol agent arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject was previously deported from the U.S. and was a convicted rapist.

El Centro Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico at the bus station in Indio, California. The subject admitted to being a member of the Sureno 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the U.S. and had a criminal history.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested two United States Citizens (USC), four illegal aliens from Mexico, and seized 1,288 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,030,800, and a 1998 Kenworth tractor-trailer. The subjects presented themselves and the tractor-trailer for inspection at the Falfurrias, Texas checkpoint. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer and a subsequent search revealed the marijuana and the illegal aliens concealed in a load of palm trees.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and an illegal alien from Mexico near Gu Vo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the USC was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Mexican national had an extensive criminal history.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents rescued an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. The subject was found unresponsive and appeared to be suffering from heat exhaustion. Agents rendered first aid and contacted emergency medical services. The subject was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Bisbee, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in Oregon.

El Centro Sector - Border Patrol agents responded to a report of several subjects crossing the International Boundary near Calexico, California. When agents arrived in the area they arrested two illegal aliens. During the arrest, agents were assaulted by several unidentified subjects in Mexico throwing rocks. An agent deployed his Border Patrol issued Pepperball Launching System and the assault ended without further incident.

Laredo Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Laredo, Texas. The subject resisted arrest and assaulted an agent, but was subdued and taken into custody. Records checks revealed the subject had an aggravated battery conviction in Louisiana.

El Paso Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Fort Hancock, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject was previously deported from the U.S. as an aggravated felon and had an active warrant of arrest issued by ICE. The subject also had an extensive criminal history including a conviction for sexual battery.

El Paso Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in Sunland Park, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject was previously deported from the U.S. and had an extensive criminal history, including convictions for assault with a weapon, family violence, possession of marijuana, and burglary.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents rescued an illegal alien from Mexico after he fell into an abandoned mineshaft near Hereford, Arizona. With the assistance of other Federal and local agencies, the subject was extracted from the mineshaft and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 1,180 pounds of marijuana valued at $2,736,950, four ATV's, a radio, and a set of night vision goggles near Sonoita, Arizona. Agents located a fence that had been cut on a local ranch and discovered ATV tire tracks. Agents followed the tracks and encountered the four abandoned ATV's loaded with the marijuana.
