Arkansas bill targets contractors hiring illegals
Arkansas lawmakers propose disciplinary action against contractors who hire illegal immigrants

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- A bill that would allow an Arkansas board to strip the license of contractors who knowingly hire illegal immigrants has been filed in the Legislature.

Rep. Jim Nickels, D-North Little Rock, filed the measure Thursday. It would allow the Contractors Licensing Board to impose penalties on contractors who knowingly employ illegal immigrants either directly or through a subcontractor.

Under the bill, the board could fine contractors $200 a day for each day in violation of the employment restriction. The board also could suspend or revoke the contractors license.
