A woman was killed and a man was injured when they ran from state police and were hit by a train early Friday in Marana, an official said.
Both were suspected illegal entrants.

The accident grew out of a Department of Public Safety officer's attempt to stop a speeding truck packed with suspected illegal entrants about 4:20 a.m. on Interstate 10 near West Ina Road, said Officer Quent Mehr, a DPS spokesman.

The westbound truck refused to stop for the officer and continued about 10 miles into Marana, where authorities put a spike strip on the freeway, Mehr said.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the truck hit the spike strip, but it went off the road and came to a controlled stop, and about 25 people packed into the truck bailed out and ran away, Mehr said.

Several of them ran toward nearby train tracks.

A woman died and a man was injured when they were hit by a train.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was flown to University Medical Center, Mehr said.

He was in stable condition Friday afternoon.

Authorities were continuing to search for the other suspected entrants who had jumped out of the truck, Mehr said. A helicopter was in the area Friday to assist with the search.

Mehr said he didn't know where the people in the truck had come from or where they were headed.
