The Bakersfield Californian | Thursday, Mar 27 2008 4:44 PM
Last Updated: Thursday, Mar 27 2008 10:43 PM

Delano police issued a chilling warning to residents on Thursday regarding possible gang initiations that would target motorists.

Full text of the press release:

TO ALL CITIZENS OF DELANO AND SURROUNDING AREA

On 03-27-08, the Delano Police Department Gang Unit received information that a California Criminal Street Gang is going to be holding gang initiations in the cities of Delano and McFarland.

Prospective members are to collide their vehicles into random vehicles from behind. As the driver of the victim vehicle exits, the prospective members will open fire. This information has not been substantiated nor do we know if it is credible.

As always, the Delano Police Department is concerned with the safety of all Delano residents and therefore, we are strongly suggesting that everyone use extreme caution if they are involved in a rear end collision.

If citizens are involved in a similar type vehicle collision they should drive directly to the Delano Police Department to report motor vehicle collisions until further notice. The Delano Police Department is located at 1022 12'" Avenue.According to the warning issued Thursday afternoon, gang members might hold initiations in McFarland and Delano in which prospective gang members will rear-end random vehicles. When the driver of the victim vehicle gets out, the prospective members will open fire.

Police suggest that anyone involved in a rear-end collision in those areas drive immediately to the Delano Police Department at 1022 12th Ave. until the warning is lifted.

This will only happen if little Johnnie doesn't get 10000000 emails sent to his hospital and Bill Gates pays everyone $100 who forwards this to 10
people who win free ipods for clicking this link.

Must be a very small police department. Better send the "Gang Unit"
    to LA for some re-training.

What they really mean to say is:

As always, the Delano Police Department is concerned with the safety of all Delano residents (regardless of legal status) and we as a city still support sanctuary status for all illegal aliens, including gang members, child molesters, welfare defrauders, identity thieves, DUI and Hit & Run drivers, etc. We just want to inform American citizens that they must take extra caution to not get themselves killed by illegal alien thugs and murderers because we really need their continued tax dollars to pay for all the services we plan to bestow on any illegal alien and their masses of anchor baby children. And to all illegal alien criminals and gang bangers, don't worry about any extra enforcement on our part, we will still look the other way when it comes to your illegal presence and criminal activities.

The email talks about gang initiations during the month of April.

Greensboro, NC -- An email message circulating throughout the Triad and the country about gang initiations is a hoax. That's according to Greensboro Police.

The email says an FBI agent spoke to members of a local church about gang initiations that happen in April. The message details specific situations allegedly used by gang members during initiations.

The Greensboro Police Department's Gang Unit says there is no specific "season" for gang initiations. The unit confirmed the email is fake.

Fact or Fiction #12: Flashing Headlights Means Gang Trouble

If you see another vehicle with their headlights off at night, you shouldn't flash your lights at them. It's part of a gang initiation.

Greensboro -- An e-mail warns people about a new gang initiation. Prospective gang members attack drivers of cars who flash their high beams at them. They follow them and rob or murder them.

    "Fact or Fiction?"

This one is … buzzzzzzz .... FICTION.

It goes as far back as the 1980s. The e-mail has gone through a few changes over time but so far as anyone can find out, this has never happened.

That could be the case. But knowing this area and seeing myself last year a man brought into the hospital who was stabbed in the chest for stopping for a "disabled vehicle" which turned out to be a gang initiation in which he was ambushed for being a good samaritan....I'll put more stock in the Delano warning.

When I moved here I was warned by a fellow worker who has lived here all his life and happens to be Hispanic that you should NEVER stop to help a disabled vehicle because of this reason. He told me just drive on and call it in to the police with your cellphone.

It's a sad state of affairs when you can't even feel like you can stop to help someone.
