    Amnesty bill on deck

A grassroots immigration political action committee says the Senate is poised to vote on a bill that would grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrant farm workers and their relatives.

William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), says Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-California) and Larry Craig (R-Idaho) were able to convince the Senate Appropriations Committee to insert an "Ag Jobs" provision into an Iraq war spending bill. If the bill passes with the language included, Gheen contends, it will provide amnesty to millions of illegal alien farm workers. (See earlier story)

"There's [sic] not enough members of the Senate, unfortunately, who are not in the hands of big businesses," he laments. "If they think they can pass this bill, and they think they can get away with it without a public backlash, [there's] a good chance it will pass. Only a strong public backlash will stop this thing," Gheen points out.
rs advocates want, it would serve as an important first step in getting to that goal. He hopes a handful of senators who advocate border enforcement can kill this latest amnesty attempt.

The bill, according to Gheen, is expected to be voted on sometime today.
