Are soup lines in our future?

APLast week, the U.S. Senate passed a $15 billion jobs bill which was largely comprised of tax breaks to businesses creating new jobs, at the behest of the Congressional Black Caucus, another $1.5 billion dollars was added to the bill in the House for a summer jobs program.

However, the bill does not contain any provision to check the legal status of potential employees, using the federal E-verify system.

While the bill was still being debated, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) along with seven others asked Majority Leader Harry Reid to add language into the bill, which would add protections, including the requirement of E-Verify, to prevent the money from going to illegal aliens. However, none of the amendments were allowed by the Democratically controlled Senate.

Consequently, the businesses receiving the tax breaks may give the new jobs to illegal aliens, and there is no reason to believe that the added summer jobs program will not be open to those who have entered this country illegally as well.

The Senate is now discussing a much larger jobs bill, a measure that, if passed, will cost taxpayers another $150 billion. As yet, there has been no action taken to assure that none of that money is used to hire illegal aliens, rather than U.S. citizens.

With 1 in 5 Americans out of work, we simply cannot afford to allow one job go to an illegal alien. The issue of illegal immigration is now a fight for the survival of the American family.

The Democrats have to lose control of both houses for the safety and security of the American people.

An article in today's San Francisco Chronicle by James Oliphant of the Chicago Tribune says that the House passed a slightly different version, so the jobs bill will go back to the Senate.

The article says, "The bill passed 217-201, on close to a party-line vote despite opposition from the Congressional Black Caucus, whose members said it would do little in the inner cities." What the article does not say is that in their December, 2009, letter to 'Bama the Caucus called for restricting job funds to United States Citizens.

I couldn't locate this article on SFGate.com, so no link.
