Repeat illegal border crosser with criminal history given prison term

A Nogales, Son. man with a criminal history who was convicted three times of illegally entering the country after being deported has been sentenced to 8.75 years in federal prison.

Pedro Puentes-Meza, 32, was given seven years for pleading guilty to illegal re-entry after deportation and 1.75 years for violating his supervised release from a previous conviction, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Phoenix.

Puentes-Meza, whose criminal history also includes seven convictions for violent crimes, was apprehended in April 2008 by U.S. Border Patrol officials in Bisbee, the release said.
