ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A woman who ran a phony document racket to help illegal aliens get New Mexico driver's licenses will go to prison for a decade.

A district judge suspended the rest of Rosa Pardo-Marrufo's 21-year sentence Thursday.

Pardo-Maruffo, who is herself here illegally, helped more than 30 people fool the state Motor Vehicle Division with forged rental agreements and other documents.

Three others are also charged in the scam .

Pardo-Maruffo was initially indicted on over 100 individual counts. In May she pleaded guilty to four counts of conspiracy to commit forgery; two counts of altering, forging or making a fictitious license; two counts of perjury; and three counts of forgery.

As part of a plea deal prosecutors agreed not to seek a prison sentence of more than 10 years.

KRQE News 13 investigative reporter Larry Barker exposed the scam and the criminal underworld of which it was a part in a report broadcast in May 2009
