This video from the Inter American Development Bank cites Chinese competition for things like clothing exports as a chief cause of unemployment in the Caribbean and Central America.

LatAm steel production hurt by Chinese imports, industry group says
Published March 11, 2015EFE
Latin America's imports of Chinese steel rose 73 percent in January 2015 compared to the same month of last year, "seriously affecting" the region's production, the Latin American Steel Association, or Alacero, said.
Imports totaled 1.1 million tons in January, up from 623,000 tons in the same month of 2014, Alacero said Tuesday.
As in previous reports, the Santiago-based association warned that China's policy of continually driving down prices "continues to harm the region's production."
"It's important that governments recognize the seriousness of the situation and take timely and effective action," Alacero said.
The countries that saw the biggest year-on-year rise in laminated steel imports from China in January were Argentina, up 427 percent; Mexico, 325 percent higher; Ecuador, up 208 percent; and the Dominican Republic, 204 percent higher.
The downward price trend is the result of the Chinese government's subsidies for state-owned steel manufacturers, according to Alacero, which says Beijing is trying to keep exports growing and avoid unemployment. EFE"Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David

Trump is right, they manipulate their currency and we and many other countries need to stop buying goods from them, regardless of their low price - it is JUNK anyway. Lead paint on baby toys, melamine in baby formula.
Lord only knows how many counterfeit products from toothpaste to aspirin are on our shelves and what they actually contain. And it is probably easier to get the garbage into smaller countries. Look at a package of frozen Alaskian Wild Salmon, the fine print says "product of china". They have the rights to much of our salmon caught here, shipped to china, they handle it in their scummy factories and package and it, then ship back here.
Americans should have those jobs produced by OUR salmon from OUR Alaska. We don't need all this shipping and flying as both use very high octane and polluting fuels.
I personally avoid buying products made in china - hard to do as it seems everything is - also avoid made in vietnam for many reasons.
