CHICAGO (AP) - A group affiliated with the Archidocese of Chicago says Cardinal Francis George will call for comprehensive immigration reform at an event Saturday.

Elena Segura, director of the national Catholic Campaign for Immigration Reform, says George will advocate "compassionate, comprehensive" reform at Our Lady of Mercy Church on Chicago's northwest side.

A flyer posted on the archdiocese Web site says the cardinal will appear alongside activists making a public plea for an end to raids and deportations. U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez will attend, along with people who have had family members deported.

The flyer says people will sign a petition asking President Barack Obama to take action soon.

George is president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
