-Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Mission is calling to a press conference to denounce the cook county sheriff and the Department of Homeland Security-





Chicago- Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Mission will protest in front of the Cook County Prison at 26th and California to demand an end to the discriminate targeting of Latino immigrants by Immigration and Custom Enforcement following their exoneration from criminal charges.



Latino immigrants who have been going to the Cook County Courthouse in order to respond to criminal and civil charges before a judge have found themselves preyed upon by ICE and the Cook County Sheriff’s Department officers working in concert with each other. ICE has been scouting for individuals while they participate in their legal proceedings and have subsequently been detained at the police station at 26th and California and brought up on immigration violations after being exonerated of criminal and civil charges.



Since Pres. Barack Obama appointed Janet Napolitano, one of the most anti-immigrant individuals in the former Bush Administration, to head up the Department of Homeland Security, attacks on immigrants have increased. For example, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been putting holds regarding immigration status and engaging deportation proceedings for all immigrants in Cook County jails and other counties in Illinois.



We are calling on Obama to issue an Executive Order to stop this.



We are calling on the judges in the court houses to refuse to uphold these charges.



We are calling on the State of Illinois to stop supporting the Department of Homeland Security and ICE in targeting immigrants.



We are calling on the Sheriff’s Department to disengage from cooperating with ICE on these activities..
