Highland restaurant employee pleads guilty to illegally entering country

A Mexican citizen who was illegally working at a Mexican restaurant in Highland was sentenced to 94 days in prison.

Miguel Hernandez-Reyes, 37, of Mexico, pleaded guilty Tuesday to illegally entering the United States and misusing a Social Security number. Hernandez-Reyes pleaded guilty in federal court in East St. Louis, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton.

Hernandez-Reyes was sentenced to time served in prison, which was 94 days, one year supervised release and a $210 special assessment fine.

The case was investigated by agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Highland Police Department.
