Groups sue over NV immigration initiative
Groups sue over NV immigration initiative
Associated Press - June 19, 2010 5:44 PM ET
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The ACLU and a group of southern Nevada Democrats and businessmen have sued over an initiative that would establish tough new immigration laws in Nevada similar to those in Arizona.
In their lawsuits filed Friday in Carson District Court, the ACLU and Nevada Open for Business Coalition ask a judge to block the initiative from going to the Legislature or voters.
The groups contend it violates state law requiring initiative petitions to contain only one subject, promotes racial profiling and would hurt the state's economy.
Assemblyman Chad Christensen, the initiative's sponsor, brands the suits as "bogus." He says his proposal provides protections against racial profiling and would save the state money in costs for illegal immigrants.

The groups contend it violates state law requiring petitions to contain only one subject, promotes racial profiling and would hurt the state’s economy.
“Not only does the intent of the proposal blatantly violate America’s most fundamental values of fairness and equality, the expansive scope of it intentionally confuses voters,â€Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn
