This is disguisting. The Sheriff's department protecting illegal day laborers who are being robbed by their own people.

Broward deputies arrest five for allegedly robbing immigrant day laborers

Oakland Park - Broward Sheriff's deputies arrested five people suspected of snatching money from day laborers, an agency spokesman said Wednesday.

The suspects, arrested Friday in the 3700 block of North Andrews Avenue, are accused of targeting the workers, who are paid in cash and often are too afraid to report the thefts because they may not be documented, spokesman Mike Jachles said in a news release.

They men were arrested during an undercover operation by the Broward Sheriff's Office to stop those who prey on migrant workers.



The suspects are Dieuvend Davilus, 45, of Oakland Park; brothers Rangel Castellanos, 30, of Oakland Park, and Williams Castellanos, 24, of Tamarac; Carlos Nabarete-Serrano, 24, of Fort Lauderdale; and Marvin Rosa, 29, of El Salvador.

"Roofing workers and day laborers, frequently paid in cash are easy targets for the thugs who prey on them," Jachles said. "It is believed that for every robbery of this type, there are numerous incidents that go unreported."

Here's how Jachles said the undercover sting occurred:

About 8 p.m. Friday, an undercover deputy posed as a day laborer on North Andrews Avenue, where analysis of crime patterns showed several robberies of such workers had occurred. He had money in his pockets.

Before long, Davilus came up to the deputy and snatched cash from his shirt pocket. He was promptly arrested and charged with robbery by sudden snatching and obstruction without violence.

The second incident involved the four other men, Jachles said. Rangel Castellanos approached the deputy while his brother Williams acted as the lookout. Nabarete-Serrano and Rosa were also present, though they did not participate, Jachles said.

The Castellanos were charged with robbery by sudden snatching. Serrano and Rosa were charged with obstruction without violence.

Davilus, Williams Castellanos, Nabarete-Serrano and Rosa posted bail and have been released. Rangel Castellanos remains at the Broward County Main Jail.

Friday's sting was only the first of similar undercover operations the Sheriff's Office plans to carry out, Jachles said. Deputies will also monitor property in vehicles to catch thieves.

"This should serve as a warning to anyone who attempts to commit a crime in Oakland Park, because the victim may actually be an undercover deputy," Jachles said.

One that got robbed could have been American or at least a leagle immigrrent...
But I have to say they all should have been checked out by the officers

In the comments after the article one person asked: "Is stealing back what is not theirs a crime? It should not be." I liked that one. Another person wrote that they are lucky that they are only being robbed and that they should self deport. There is alot of outrage out there about this.
