U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter 10/21/09

(10/21/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 15,714 pounds of marijuana, over 200 pounds of cocaine, 22.48 pounds of methamphetamines and 4.54 pounds of heroin. Agents arrested 14 criminal aliens and 8 gang members. There were 12 rocking incidents.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Laredo, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject was a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member, and had been previously removed from the United States.

San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested three illegal aliens near Tecate, California. All three subjects claimed to have been assaulted by two armed men in Mexico, prior to illegally entering the United States. One of the subjects had a severe eye injury, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a boat, 921 pounds of marijuana, and arrested seven smuggling suspects and seven illegal aliens near Leucadia, California. The ponga-style vessel containing 35 bundles of marijuana landed on the beach and was intercepted by Border Patrol agents.

San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 840 pounds of marijuana, a 2002 Toyota and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico. The vehicle was interdicted on Interstate 5 near San Clemente, California.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for a lewd act upon a child in the State of California. He also had an active arrest warrant in California.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being an MS-13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had a prior conviction for assault with a deadly weapon in the State of California. He also had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.

Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Blythe, California. Records checks revealed the subject was an MS-13 gang member. He also had prior convictions for forgery and obstruction of a public officer. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

Grand Forks Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico after assisting local law enforcement officers near Dickinson, North Dakota. Records checks revealed that one of the illegal aliens was a Sureño gang member, as well as an aggravated felon with a prior conviction for possession of a short-barreled shotgun. He had also been previously deported from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,972 pounds of marijuana, a 2003 tractor-trailer, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search revealed the marijuana concealed inside a load of boxes.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 4.54 pounds of heroin, 6 pounds of marijuana, and arrested two nationals of Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Agents discovered and tracked foot sign in a residential area near the international border, and found the subjects, with the narcotics, hiding nearby.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual conduct with a minor and was sentenced to five years in prison in Arizona. He had also been previously deported from the United States as an aggravated felon.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents responded to a request from a local law enforcement agency to assist in locating four escaped prisoners near Indio, California. Agents located and apprehended three of the four escapees, and turned them over to local law enforcement officials. The fourth escapee was also located and apprehended.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Jordan near Brownsville, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had prior convictions for possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents were assaulted by several unidentified subjects in Mexico near Calexico, California. The unidentified subjects threw rocks at the agents, who deployed less lethal munitions to stop the assault. Subsequent to the deployment of the less lethal munitions, the subjects discontinued their assault and left the area.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents, CBP Air and Marine assets, and local law enforcement officers responded to an ultra light aircraft (ULA) incursion near Nogales, Arizona. The responding ground units located the ULA and 233 pounds of marijuana. Local authorities later arrested the suspected pilot of the ULA.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Eagle Pass, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Paisas gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, to include criminal sexual conduct, alien smuggling, and assault causing bodily injury. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Deming, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject was an aggravated felon with an extensive criminal history, to include burglary, possession of a weapon, and possession of narcotics. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Fort Hancock, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Barrio Azteca gang member and records checks revealed that he had been previously removed from the United States.


Ramey Sector – Border Patrol agents and local law enforcement officials seized 161.86 pounds of cocaine from an abandoned vessel near Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. Agents discovered a semi-sunken, abandoned vessel, and a search revealed the cocaine in two large containers.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 8,451 pounds of marijuana, a 1999 tractor, a 1982 Maverick tanker, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vacuum tanker. A search revealed the contraband inside the tanker.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior felony conviction for a lewd or lascivious act with a child under 14. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents reported that three illegal aliens claimed they were robbed at gunpoint by three bandits near Three Points, Arizona. The case was referred to local law enforcement authorities.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,031 pounds of marijuana, a 2006 Ford F-250, a 2009 trailer, and arrested a USC near Freer, Texas. Agents performed a vehicle stop on the truck, and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search revealed the marijuana inside a plywood compartment.


Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested three USCs, and seized a small amount of marijuana and two loaded weapons at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the cargo area of the vehicle. A search revealed the marijuana and the weapons inside.


Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a small amount of marijuana, seven handguns, 639 rounds of ammunition, a 2000 Chevy Blazer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A search revealed the marijuana, weapons, and ammunition concealed inside.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized two loaded AR-15 rifles near Pharr, Texas. While conducting patrol duties, agents discovered the rifles abandoned in the brush.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near San Diego, California. Records checks revealed the subject was an aggravated felon with an extensive criminal history, to include prior convictions for voluntary manslaughter with a firearm and robbery in the State of California. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sex with a minor, and lewd and lascivious acts with a child in the State of California. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Amado, Arizona. Records checks revealed that the subject had a prior conviction for vehicular homicide while driving under the influence in the State of Pennsylvania, and had served seven and a half years in prison. He had also been previously removed from the United States.

Ramey Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from the Dominican Republic near Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for second degree murder in Puerto Rico, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,305 pounds of marijuana and an abandoned 1998 Ford F-250 near Escobares, Texas. Agents observed the vehicle traveling north away from the international border at a high rate of speed and subsequently discovered it abandoned with the marijuana inside.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two nationals of Mexico and seized 38.62 pounds of cocaine following a vehicle stop near Temecula, California. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a search revealed the cocaine concealed in an aftermarket compartment.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in Blythe, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for lewd and lascivious act with a child in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.
