Tancredo to Visit Miami - Third World Country

I would love to see him speak as I agree with him 100% that Miami is a third world country. This may become a very heated meeting requiring police presence.

The Colorado congressman who irked Gov. Jeb Bush by likening Miami to the Third World is braving a visit to the city.

Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo is scheduled to speak at the Rotary Club of Miami's weekly meeting Thursday at the Rusty Pelican restaurant on Virginia Key.

A spokesman for Tancredo said the club extended the invitation to the controversial congressman, telling him that many people agreed with his views.

''They wanted a speaker that would go out there and tell it like it is,'' said spokesman Carlos Espinosa.

The title of Tancredo's talk is ``Renewing America: The Need for Assimilation.''

Tancredo last month ruffled local feathers when he pointed to Miami as an example of what could happen to the United States if immigration policies are not tightened and said of the city in an interview with a conservative online news site, ``You would never know you're in the United States of America. You would certainly say you're in a Third World country.''

Bush, who adopted Miami as his hometown more than two decades ago, called Tancredo's remarks ``naive.''

Tancredo ran for office with the intent of spreading his belief that uncontrolled immigration and what he calls a ''cult of multiculturalism'' poses a threat to the United States.

I think Miami is just an example of what the U.S cities will become if "We the People" don't demand more people like Tancredo in office.

How about Tancredo for President in 08?

Miami, target of Tancredo, donates vacation

By Ivan Moreno, Rocky Mountain News
    December 9, 2006
Among the sleeping bag, bowling ball and charcoal grill up for auction at a benefit for fallen Navy Seal Danny P. Dietz on Friday was an olive branch of sorts from Florida to U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo.

Tancredo, co-sponsor of the event, enraged Floridians last month by saying Miami resembled "a Third World country" and that immigration there was responsible for high crime rates.

So, at the request of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau donated a luxury vacation to Miami to be auctioned at the Dietz fundraiser.

"It's a great package. I'd like to have it," said Kelli Narde, director of communications for Littleton.

She said she got a call Monday from the executive director of Florida's tourism department telling her of Bush's request.

The trip for six days and five nights is valued at $8,500, but a lucky bidder snatched the vacation for $4,200.

Narde said the executive director for Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau told her "they wanted the residents of the 6th Congressional District, which Tancredo represents, to know that Miami is a wonderful place to visit."

Tancredo, a Republican, wasn't at the auction, having missed his Friday flight from Washington to Colorado.

Tancredo's plane was being held for him, but the person in charge of boarding ordered it to take off before the congressman arrived, according to his wife, Jackie, who was at the fundraiser.

Terry VanKeuren, Tancredo's military and veterans advocate, joked that they have since discovered that the person in charge of boarding the plane was from Miami.
