Terror defendant guilty on immigration charges

GREENVILLE, N.C. --
A North Carolina man charged in a terrorist plot to attack a Marine base has been found guilty on immigration violations in a separate case.

A jury on Friday found Anes Subasic guilty on two counts. Prosecutors say Subasic lied about having a criminal record when he applied in the 1990s to become a U.S citizen. He had at least 10 prior criminal charges in his native Bosnia.

Subasic is one of seven men charged in an alleged terrorist conspiracy to attack the U.S. Marine base in Quantico, Va., and targets overseas. Ringleader Daniel Boyd has pleaded guilty, as did two of his sons. A trial for three others began in New Bern this week.

Subasic is representing himself in court and will be tried separately on the terrorism charges.

NC trial focuses on plot to kill service personnel

NEW BERN, N.C. --
Federal prosecutors have begun introducing their case against three North Carolina men accused of plotting terrorist attacks.

Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, Ziyad Yaghi and Hysen Sherifi face felony charges from allegations they conspired to attack the U.S. Marine Corps base in Quantico, Va., and targets overseas. They have pleaded not guilty.

An FBI agent testified Wednesday that a multiyear surveillance effort used subpoenas and paid informants to collect a trove of evidence about the group, including bank records, emails, Facebook posts and audio tapes.

Accused ringleader Daniel Patrick Boyd pleaded guilty in February to charges of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and conspiracy to murder, kidnap and injure persons in a foreign country. Two of his sons also pleaded guilty.

Boyd is expected to testify for the government.
