Archbishop (No Law Enforcement on Holidays?)

Come on Archbishop, these are criminals! Shall all law enforcement in this country come to a halt on every holiday, shall we add all world holidays to that list too that law enforcement can't act? If you are a Christian you know you are suppose to abide in the law, so do so Archbishop and quit your illogical unchristian complaining!

Archbishop says raid put human face on flaws of immigration system

This afternonon, Archbishop Charles J. Chaput released his statement on the arrests of unauthorized workers at Swift & Co. plants. Here is the statement in it's entirety:

“The mass arrest of unauthorized workers in Colorado and across the country this week once again puts a human face on the flaws in our immigration system; a system that needs immediate and very serious reform.

As I’ve said many times in the past, the Church supports the law. She supports our nation’s right to regulate immigration and secure our borders for the common good of all citizens. We also deeply respect the men and women who have the task of enforcing the law in difficult circumstances.

But as Catholics, we also need to vigorously question the timing, manner and focus of these latest arrests. Staged on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe and barely two weeks before Christmas, these raids have disrupted hundreds of families in the immigrant community and frightened many thousands more. And while public officials have explained the reason for these raids as criminal identity theft, most of the real criminals – the people who steal and sell the false identities so that undocumented immigrants can find work – were not among those arrested.

Dramatic, get-tough arrests of more and more average workers will not solve our immigration crisis. In fact, such actions often engender more confusion and bitterness, and they don’t strike at the root of the real issue: an immigration system that seems disconnected from the human and business realities of the American economy.

As we enter the last few days before Christmas, we urgently pray that God will grant our law enforcement authorities prudence, justice and restraint in carrying out their duties, and that members of Congress will act rapidly and with courage in fixing an immigration system that has clearly failed. Above all, we need to pray for the children and spouses of those persons who were arrested and face deportation at this sacred time of year.”

    + Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.
    Archbishop of Denver

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput can kiss my rosary. The Catholic church doesn't make the rules in this country.

I agree NM. Such statements from Catholic clergy and their attitude in general just has me hopping mad. Their 501c3 status needs to be revoked. I grew up Catholic, so I feel fully justified in saying this!!!

Criminy! Our Lady of Guadalupe Day is a Mexican holiday, not an American holiday. If they don't like being inconvenienced on a foreign national holiday, let them go back home.

On top of that, the day as a religious festival is pure bunk. It's nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt by the Spaniards to allow the Mesoamericans to continue to worship their moon goddess, Tonantzin. The best evidence of this is that even though the miraculous appearance of the Virgin to a young Catholic adept was supposed to have occurred in 1531, the story did not turn up in any recorded version until 1648.

Seperation of Church and State........ Don't like that, better move to another country.

You want to complain about the date! Complain to Swift, they put the raid off until a later date, since they had Asian businessmen in town on the original planned date. Better go throw your holy water at them Chaput.

Lady of Guadalupe Day - Doesn't mean anything to me. The day was Tuesday a very good day to round up a bunch of criminals.

Yeah, just like there was a period of silence on the new testament scriptures 60 years after the death of Christ.

That's completely different. There was no need to begin committing the Christ story to paper until the original witnesses began to die off. That the gospel was being propagated orally immediately and constantly is a matter of historical fact. There were, of course, MANY epistles written in the early years after the crucifixion, so the idea that there were no texts for 60 years is sheer folly.

No sir, Archie my man! What this statement says is that YOU are involving yourself in Politics for money - DINERO - that's red hot American DOLLARS and YOU, sir, are a fraud.

What that says, Archie, is that YOU and the hierarchy of the Church has hijacked the Catholic doctrine.

What a disgrace you have shown yourself to be, Archie, having shut your mouth while millions have been butchered in Africa for decades.

I'm certain, archie bishop, that Christmas never stopped the CHILD MOLESTERS that wear the robes. You hypocrite!

PATOOEY to you and yours. You make me ill and embarrassed of the Roman Catholic church.
