CBP/Border Patrol in Arizona seize more than $16 Million in Narcotics in week
January 18, 2012
Bob Wilson, Spokane Immigration Examiner
Almost 30,000 pounds of narcotics was seized and more than 2500 illegal aliens arrested on the Arizona Border last week from January 9 to 15 per a news release on January 18, 2012.
More than 29,000 pounds of marijuana, 46 pounds of cocaine, 41 pounds of meth along with 64 pounds of Heroin were seized during the week along the Arizona border.
Along with the tremendous volume of narcotics, these officers arrested 2,554 illegal aliens and 146 aliens who were deemed inadmissible. More than 600 of these individuals were presented to the U. S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
Along with these numbers more than $120,000 in cash, 58 vehicles used for illicit purposes and thousands of rounds of ammunition were seized by the agents of CBP.
Most of these narcotics and illegal aliens were destined for interior locations within the United States such as the areas around Spokane. Eastern Washington is designated as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) by the Drug Enforcement Administration and actually acts as a HUB for much of the “hard drugs” such as heroin, methamphetamines and cocaine to be distributed throughout the Northwest United States.
