Arizona Senator Kyl Doesn't Expect Sweeping SB 1070 Ruling

(Washington, DC) -- Arizona Senator Jon Kyl doesn't expect a sweeping ruling by the federal judge who's weighing his state's controversial immigration law.
I
nstead, the Senate Republican Whip says Judge Susan Bolton might take issue with the wording of some parts of the new law.

Senator Kyl said he believes the main provision that requires police to check a person's immigration status under certain circumstances will stand.

Kyl also said it's important to remember that the judge will be ruling on an injunction and not a final decision on the constitutionality of the law.

The Obama administration challenged the law known as SB 1070, claiming only the federal government has the right to set immigration laws and policy.

The new law is set to take effect tomorrow.
