Illegal Immigrants Cripple Trauma Care
Re "A Cry for Trauma Care," June 8: I could not agree more that Los Angeles County requires additional trauma centers. As your report states, "the heavy financial burden of handling uninsured patients has caused some hospitals to scratch their trauma centers."

Until it is truly understood that the influx of illegal aliens is the major reason that not only are we lacking in trauma centers, but that several hospitals have completely closed as well, and until both the state and federal government get serious about stopping this influx, many more people will die needlessly due to the lack of hospital trauma-care centers.

Sixx says: Once you eliminate the IMPOSSIBLE, whatever is left, no matter how IMPROBABLE, must be the TRUTH!!! Trauma Centers are the life blood of community health care. You lose a level 1 or 2 trauma center you lose more than a hospital. You lose LIVES. I love June. That is when the new residents come from their internships to start their surgical careers. We tease them, put stuff under their bed sheets, and they have to go to the "killing grounds". They are so vibrant, so full of that "I'm going to change the world" attitude. Then comes their first Friday and Saturday night shifts. "Hand Gun and Hard Liquor nights" The medical school never told them about these gang banging illegal aliens. Of course they are not the only ones that get shot or turn their vehicles over. But they are the only ones that don't speak English. These kids come from Vermont. They don't know nothing about spanish. I you can't communicate with a patient that has multiple gun shot wounds, it's bad. If they have to wait for a translation of tell me where it hurts the worse, that is real trouble. Minutes mean life or death. I have seen these vermin die because they can't or some times WON'T speak English. Meantime Mrs. Smith needs a chest tube and here comes another macho man. Nobody wants to work trauma no more.
