DEA Publishes Proposal to Reschedule Hydrocodone
FEB 24 (WASHINGTON)
Today the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) published in the Federal Register a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to move hydrocodone combination products (HCPs) from Schedule III to Schedule II, as recommended by the Assistant Secretary for Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and as supported by the DEA’s own evaluation of relevant data. This NPRM proposes to impose the regulatory controls and sanctions applicable to Schedule II substances on those who handle or propose to handle HCPs. The public is invited to review the proposed rule, which is posted on the DEA’swebsite.

San Diego-U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested seven individuals this weekend who were involved in three separate human and drug smuggling events in the east and north county of San Diego.The first event occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, when a man in a 1999 Ford Mustang ignored agents' request to stop at the Interstate 5 checkpoint near San Clemente. CBP at Santa Teresa Port Nets Four Drug Busts this Weekend

Santa Teresa, New Mexico - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Santa Teresa port of entry were very busy this weekend. Officers at the New Mexico border crossing seized 470 pounds of marijuana in four seizures. The estimated street value of the seized contraband is $376,000. (more)

El Paso, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and U.S. Border Patrol agents working at the El Paso port of entry made multiple drug seizures this weekend. The most notable included a vehicle with several gallons of liquid methamphetamine in the fuel tank and another car that had large amounts of cocaine and heroin concealed in the engine compartment. Nogales, Ariz. - A 25-year-old Tucson woman was arrested Thursday for attempting to smuggle nearly 138 pounds of marijuana through the Port of Nogales.U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers selected a Chevrolet sedan for further inspection and, with the help of a CBP narcotics detection canine, located nearly $69,000 worth of marijuana hidden underneath the floorboards and within the back seats. CBP Officers Find 270 Pounds of Pot in SUV

Douglas, Ariz. - A 33-year-old female resident of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico was arrested Wednesday for attempting to smuggle 270 pounds of marijuana through the Port of Douglas. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers selected a Ford SUV for further inspection and, with help from a CBP narcotics detection canine, located nearly $135,000 worth of marijuana hidden under the hood and within the vehicle's tires. San Luis, Ariz. - A 53-year-old male Mexican national was taken into custody this morning for attempting to smuggle more than 31 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States. Customs and Border Protection officers located 26 packages of methamphetamine, worth $482,515 hidden in the doors of a Jeep Cherokee driven by Alejandro Perez-Corrales. (more)

Tucson, Ariz. - Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two convicted sex offenders this week. One of the subjects is a U.S. citizen and the other was a citizen of Mexico.Both felons were previously convicted of sex crimes against children: illegal sexual contact of a minor child, and indecency with a child-sexual contact.
