AZ:Restaurant group joins action against employer sanctions

Restaurant group joins action against employer sanctions law

The Business Journal of Phoenix - 4:28 PM MST Thursday, July 19, 2007
    by Mike Sunnucks

An Arizona food industry group has joined a business lawsuit asking the federal courts to throw out a new state law that punishes companies caught hiring illegal immigrants.

The Arizona Restaurant & Hospitality Association said Thursday it was joining the Arizona Contractors Association and Arizona Employers for Immigration Reform in their lawsuit against the employer sanctions law.

The state approved the employer sanctions law earlier this month. It suspends or revokes the licenses of businesses caught knowingly and intentionally hiring illegal immigrants. The sanctions push has strong support from conservatives in the Legislature and does well in public opinion polls.

Business leaders have lambasted the state law, arguing that immigration is a federal matter and that the new rules violate due process laws, are racist toward Hispanics and could put legitimate businesses out of commission, costing jobs.

Sanctions backers counter that the businesses hiring illegal immigrants are breaking the law and exploiting cheap labor, and that they have an unfair labor cost advantage over firms playing by the rules.

Other business groups are expected to join the lawsuit.

This shows exactly where their loyalities lie...it is to the almighty dollar, even obtaining it illegally by wilfully breaking our laws. Their loyalties are to themselves and illegals and against the American worker, the American citizen and this country.

AZ is a big state with lots of varied businesses, but one of the big incomes for the area are the 'snowbirds' that come down from the north every year.

If you haven't seen the change when they come in, it is astounding.

We arrived there one year in March, just as they were beginning to leave. The area seemed so dead. You never had to wait in line at the grocery store, the restaurants, etc. I kept asking how in the world that area survived.

When the 'snowbirds' began coming in - I knew. LInes at restaurants were sometimes out the door and down the sidewalk, traffic jams were everyday things, lines at grocery stores, etc.

If these old people find out that the area is not safe because of the influx of illegals, they will not come there. It will hurt the economy - big time.

The thing about the old people, they have money to spend, and they do spend it.

If I were a business person, I surely would be wondering if I want the illegals or do I want the oldsters.

SO THEY ARE HIRING ILLEGAL ALIENS AND WANT TO CONTINUE TO DO SO. THEY ARE BREAKING THE LAW AND WANT TO GO TO COURT TO CONTINUE TO BREAK THE LAW.

THAT IS LIKE A BANK ROBBER GOING TO COURT TO TRY TO BLOCK THE BANKS FROM PUTTING CAMERAS IN THE BANK TO IDENTIFY BANK ROBBERS.

THEY ARE SO BOLD ABOUT IT TOO.

This is a 501C3 Organization, why would they want to encourage criminal behavior, why would they want food handlers who have not gone through screening for communicable disease to be hired? Do they not understand that if you make the patorns ill, they will not return?

How many of us have become ill after eating out? Sometimes just a queasy, nauseous feeling - all the way up to and including being really ill.

Do we ever think of the possibility that it could actually be from some virus picked up in the restaurant. Usually I just say, "Well, I ate too much." or "I knew better than to eat greasy food."
