Rep. Bobby Reese reports the Georgia Employer and Worker Protection Act too controversial for Georgia House of Representatives – bill dies without hearing
Today, Representative Bobby Reese (R-Sugar Hill # 98) sadly announces that his 2010 legislation intended to protect jobs for Georgians through employer use of the no-cost federal E-Verify database is dead in the Georgia legislature.
Reese introduced the Georgia Employer and Worker Protection Act, House Bill 1259, in early February, 2010.
E-Verify, created by an act of Congress in 1996, is an internet-based system that allows an employer, using information reported on an employee’s Form I-9, or Employment Eligibility Verification, to determine the eligibility of a newly hired employee to work in the United States. There is no charge to employers to use E-Verify, a system operated by the Department of Homeland Security in partnership with the Social Security Administration.
Reese’s bill would have required use of the E-Verify system as a condition of obtaining or renewing a business license or occupational tax certificate in Georgia.
“E-Verify helps stop black-market labor from taking Georgia jobs, said Representative Reese, I am saddened but not surprised that House leadership has rejected use of this valuable federal tool. Far too many of Georgia’s jobs have gone to people who escaped capture while crossing our borders in violation of American immigration laws. Statewide use of the proven, effective and successful E-Verify system will stop future jobs from going to illegal labor. In these desperate economic times, while we watch Georgia citizens and legal immigrants struggle with layoffs, it is beyond irresponsible to ignore E-Verify.â€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Seems that the Georgia legislature must hiring cheap illegals to do the labor to support their grand lifestyles. Otherwise, the rejection of this bill makes absolutely no sense.

I wonder if the Georgia House of Represenatives has heard/considered/passed any bills this session that would grant any privileges or benefits to illegal invaders?

We have a no benefits bill to illegals but it is unenforceable because there are no teeth - no audits, no penalties. It was just to appease taxpayers, but never meant to make an impact. So public funds can be awarded to contractors who hire subs who hire subs who hire illegals. Its despicable. And every lawmaker knows - the Dems want entitlements to illegals for political favor and the Repubs want their lobbyists and campaign contributors happy and hiring illegals. And we taxpayers get screwed.
We are being sold out folks. Controversial? I'll tell you what is controversial. Voting out each one each election until they smarten up.

At this point I just wonder if it is already too late to save the land we love so much. All I hear anymore from these politicians is we don't want to upset the Hispanic Communities or it is profiling or it is just plain "PC"
I just called the N Carolina Senators (Tillman and Berger)and they want more protection from the illegal aliens for American workers. We have E-Verify here in N Carolina but once they check on these guys ,who is to say they may let their Visas run out and stay. That is one problem I heard of, from one of their attorneys in Raliegh. They were already checked and they do not get checked again is the way I understand it.
When I was talking to these guys I told them the laws are not broken it is our federal government that DOES NOT ENFORCE THE LAWS! The laws are there and they just need to be enforced."When you have knowledge, you have a responsibility to do better"_ Paula Johnson
