CA: BONO MACK HELPS STATES DEAL WITH CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS
BONO MACK HELPS STATES DEAL WITH CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS
California Political Desk
May 11, 2008
Wassington, D.C. – Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) praised House passage of H.R. 1512, which would amend the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) to authorize reimbursements to States and local governments for costs associated with the incarceration of illegal aliens charged – rather than convicted – with a felony or two or more misdemeanors. Bono Mack joined Representative Linda Sanchez (CA-39) and other members of the California Delegation in introducing this legislation in May of 2007. The measure passed by a voice vote yesterday and now awaits consideration in the Senate.
"Our state and local governments depend on SCAAP funding to deal with the burgeoning costs associated with incarcerating criminal aliens," said Bono Mack. "At a time when our State is facing such economic challenges, we must ensure that crucial SCAAP funding continues so that our law enforcement officials can effectively deal with those who enter our country illegally and commit crimes.
"This legislation is especially crucial for Riverside County, where a recent DOJ interpretation of the original SCAAP statute cut the County´s reimbursements from $3.69 million to $887,826. We need to give our local law enforcement officials the tools they need to protect our communities and keep criminals where they belong – behind bars."
According to the Riverside County Sheriff´s Department, the County´s jails are currently holding over 2,800 illegal aliens. With the average stay at sixty days, the estimated annual cost to the County is more than $18.51 million.
Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff said, "The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is strongly in favor of passage of H.R. 1512, which will reinstate the County's ability to be reimbursed for the cost associated with incarcerating those that have entered our country illegally and are charged with a serious crime. Immigration remains a Federal responsibility, and this is a significant step in helping to offset the local impacts of illegal immigration."
A consistent proponent for SCAAP funding, Bono Mack notes that securing both our northern and southern borders is a vital aspect of protecting U.S. national security and keeping communities safe.

The State of California under it's failed leadership, has no business being reimbursed for anything associated with illegals, especially when many of the leaders in this state are too interested in promoting their illegal invader agenda. Nothing is going to change in California until our leaders are forced to realize the total financial burden the illegal invader is having on this state. As long as they are being bailed out by the Fed Gov, the less likely any meaningful legislation is going to be passed to rid this state of this invasion.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

So I know what you mean and I don't want us to get any federal money either. It's the only way to smarten up our so-called state leaders. Hit them in the pocketbook! If Palestine puts down their guns, there will be peace.

Convince me, that a state that is more welcoming than ANY other to illegal's, should get ANY help with criminal illegal aliens!
You in that state need to let Arnold and his ilk, know that he's sinking the states economy. Why shouldn't states that try to combat illegal immigration get the money way before California does?

I'm in the same boat Nicie. I'm saying nothing that I don't feel should happen to my own state. But the only way to get our states, California and Maine, to listen and change, is to hit them in the pocketbook. So my suggestion is just what I said, stop ALL federal monies to yours and my state.
Believe me in the coming years when gas is $10 a gallon and lettuce is $7 bucks a head, things will change. I notice that as the prices go higher and the money gets tighter, that more people are not for giving illegal aliens anything. It seems to be the only thing to change/enforce our laws.
If we got English as our official language then we Americans would not have to translate anything. The people would HAVE to learn English then. All of us need to consider every candidates stance on illegal immigration
As our Congressmen and Senators look for more places to save money, at some point they HAVE to look at all the freebies that the illegal aliens get. Right??If Palestine puts down their guns, there will be peace.
If Israel puts down their guns there will be no more Israel.
