BRIDGETON -- A string of vandalism involving graffiti on city property that began in February may have come to an end April 10 with the arrest of the three individuals city police believe were committing the crimes.

Irving "Spider" Hernandez, 18, of North Pearl Street, was charged with six counts of criminal mischief and Alfredo "Fresco" Liverato, 18, also of North Pearl Street, was charged with four counts of criminal mischief in regard to the vandalism.

Both men were lodged at Cumberland County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail, and had Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers issued for their arrest after it was learned they may have been in the country illegally.

At the time of this report, Hernandez remained in the county jail, but Liverato had been removed by ICE officials.

A juvenile female, known as "Travieza," was also arrested, and released to an adult after being processed.

Police first became aware of the vandalism allegedly committed by the trio on Feb. 5, and again on Feb. 7, when city workers in Bridgeton City Park noticed several areas of the park had been painted with the phrase "Los Chicos Malos," which roughly translated means "Bad Boys."

The nicknames "Spider," "Travieza" and "Fresco," were also painted in several areas.

The graffiti appeared again in early April.

Police were able to arrest the individuals with the help of anonymous tips from city residents.

The incident was investigated by Ptl. Robert Smith, Detective Sgt. Anthony Calabrese and Detective Jeffrey Parvin.
