The ongoing debate about immigration and illegal aliens from Mexico heated up in the Springs at an unlikely place... a branch of the public library.

An event there attracted several hundred Mexicans and about a dozen protestors.

It happened at the Sand Creek Library branch near South Academy and Chelton.

The Mexican Consulate made its third annual trip to the Springs.

An estimated 400 immigrants come to get Id cards, passports and other documents.

The event brought representatives of two different groups to demonstrate in protest. Juan Roberto Gonzalez is the deputy consul.

"This is the first time that we have had this kind of a protest. But I'm not surprised because we are following very close, all of the actors and proposals about the immigration issue."

Fred Elbel,represented "Defend Colorado Now".

"I'm terribly upset that the meddling Mexican government is issuing bogus id cards, and they're doing it at taxpayer-paid facilities... our public libraries."

Police and security guards kept the protest relatively peaceful. The protestors hope to get their message across--eventually, if not immediately.
