(08/07/2008)Border Patrol agents seized over 13,862 pounds of marijuana valued at $11,088,616. Agents arrested 10 criminal aliens including 8 gang members. There were 19 rocking incidents.

Del Rio Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near El Indio, Texas who was a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously deported from the U.S. and was convicted of Voluntary Manslaughter in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

Laredo Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 1,488 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,190,240, a 2004 Freightliner tractor trailer and arrested two United States Citizens (USC) at the Interstate Highway 35 checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subjects presented themselves and the tractor-trailer for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. Further inspection of the trailer revealed duffle bags containing 70 bundles of marijuana.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested a pregnant foreign national from Mexico near Brownsville, Texas. The subject advised agents her water had broken and she was experiencing contractions. EMS was contacted, but before they arrived, the subject gave birth in the back of a Border Patrol vehicle without assistance. EMS transported the subject and the baby to a local hospital.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and seized 2,346 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,876,400, and a 2001 Freightliner tractor trailer at the Falfurrias, Texas checkpoint. The subject presented himself and the tractor-trailer for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. Further inspection of the trailer revealed 105 bundles of marijuana mixed with the load of limes.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 696 pounds of marijuana valued at $556,800 from a 2003 Dodge Pick-up truck near Anzalduas Park, Texas. The driver drove the vehicle into the Rio Grande River and retreated into Mexico. The abandoned vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Harris County, Texas, was extracted from the river and agents seized the marijuana located inside the vehicle.

Del Rio Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico after he and three other illegal aliens smuggled 338 pounds of marijuana valued at $270,792 into the U.S. near Del Rio, Texas. The subject was a member of the Sureno gang, had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the U.S.

Del Rio Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Eagle Pass, Texas who was a member of the MS-13 gang and had been previously deported from the U.S.

El Centro Sector – A Border Patrol agent was assaulted by an illegal alien from Mexico when the agent responded to a report of eight unidentified subjects north of the International Boundary near Calexico, California. The agent attempted to subdue his attacker, who retreated south into the All American Canal where he was later arrested. At the same time, another group of 20-30 unidentified subjects near the International Boundary threw rocks at agents in the area. No damage or injuries were reported. An agent deployed his Border Patrol issued Pepperball Launching System to stop the threat and disperse the group.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador and an illegal alien from Guatemala near Brownsville, Texas. The alien from El Salvador was affiliated with 18th Street gang. The alien from Guatemala was affiliated with the MS-13 gang.

El Paso Sector - Border Patrol agents discovered the body of a deceased female after responding to ranch near Fabens, Texas regarding an abandoned vehicle. The agents responding to the call had knowledge of a "TXDOT Alert" of a missing female driving a Cadillac, and upon arrival confirmed that the vehicle matched that of the alert.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador who was a member of the M-S 13 gang and had been previously removed from the U.S.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 2,870 pounds of marijuana valued at $2,296,128 and a 2006 Chevrolet 1500 pickup near the village of Gunsite on the Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation. Agents were following vehicle tire tracks when they came upon the abandoned Chevrolet. The marijuana was found inside the Chevrolet.

Laredo Sector - Border Patrol agents recovered a stolen 1995 Ford Mustang. The agents attempted a vehicle stop after they saw the vehicle make a U-turn before reaching the Highway 83 checkpoint. The driver veered off the road and came to a stop at which time he exited the vehicle and absconded.

El Paso Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico who was a member of the Sureno 13 gang.

El Paso Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico who was a member of the Latin Kings gang with an extensive criminal history, including arrests for Aggravated Assault and Mob Action. The subject also had been previously removed from the U.S.

Miami Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested a subject of unknown nationality in a 2005 32-foot vessel while conducting marina checks near Pembroke Pines, Florida. Records checks revealed that the subject had an active warrant of arrest for Aggravated Identity Theft with the Department of State (DOS). During the search of the vessel agents recovered a Smith & Wesson .38 handgun and a semi-automatic AK-47 assault rifle.

Yuma Sector - Border Patrol agents recovered a stolen 2006 Chevrolet Pick-up truck and 1,431 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,144,720. Agents discovered the abandoned vehicle near Wellton, Arizona.

Yuma Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico who had an outstanding felony arrest warrant with full extradition issued out of Fresno, California for Violation of Parole. The subject had been convicted of DUI Vehicular Manslaughter.

El Paso Sector – A Border Patrol agent was injured by a U.S. Marshal during an unintentional firearms discharge at the Federal Court House in El Paso, Texas. The Border Patrol agent received serious but not life-threatening injuries which required surgery and hospitalization.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents rescued two illegal aliens, one from Mexico and one from El Salvador, near Falfurrias, Texas. Both subjects appeared to be in physical distress, and were admitted to a local hospital for severe dehydration.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Kingsville, Texas who had been previously removed from the U.S. and identified as a member of the MS-13 gang.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 1,242 pounds of marijuana valued at $993,216, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma and a 2005 Jeep Cherokee. Agents found the abandoned vehicles loaded with the marijuana near Gila Bend, Arizona.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 1,098 pounds of marijuana valued at $878,160 and recovered a stolen 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck near Newfield, Arizona. The marijuana was found inside the abandoned vehicle.

El Centro Sector - Border Patrol agents discovered a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo submerged in the All American Canal near Calexico, CA. The California Highway Patrol and the Imperial County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, extracted the vehicle and discovered a deceased female in the vehicle.

Laredo Sector - Border Patrol agents rescued four illegal aliens from Mexico who were involved in a single vehicle accident in Laredo, Texas. Agents observed the unidentified driver and front passenger exit the moving vehicle and abscond. The vehicle then left the road and crashed upside down in a creek. Agents extracted the four subjects trapped inside the vehicle, who were transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the accident.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents reported that a USC driver of a smuggling load verbally threatened agents during his arrest near Rio Grande City, Texas. The subject actively resisted arrest and uttered a verbal death threat. The subject was prosecuted for alien smuggling.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 1,121 pounds of marijuana valued at $896,800 and a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche in Pharr, Texas. The driver failed to yield for a vehicle stop. The Chevrolet containing the marijuana was found abandoned near the Rio Grande River.

San Diego Sector - Border Patrol agents reported that unidentified subjects in Mexico threw plastic bottles containing feces and urine which struck a Border Patrol vehicle near the Otay Mesa, California Port of Entry. No damage or injuries were reported.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents 1,232 pounds of marijuana valued at $985,360 and recovered a stolen 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser near San Miguel, Arizona. The marijuana was found inside the abandoned vehicle.
