It’s been about one year since Town Councilman Steve Jenkins began his campaign to end illegal immigration in Culpeper, and he’s still trying to make a dent.
He’s hosted forums, protested at Culpeper Town Square, asked for voter referenda and encouraged federal training for local law enforcement.
Now he wants the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors to form a coalition with other localities experiencing similar problems.
At Tuesday’s board meeting, Jenkins made his request during the citizen forum, with 18 people standing to support him.
First, he thanked the board for being receptive to the issue by writing U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Richmond, a letter and exploring Immigration and Customs Enforcement training for local law enforcement. He said Town Council has not been as receptive.
