Illegal Immigration: Arrest Controversy

For the second time, Palm Bay police have used trespassing law to charge people it believes are illegal immigrants.

Police charged Alfredo Camarena, Carlos Villalba, Edgar Gonzalez and Jose Camarena with trespassing in the United States.

They were detained them when no one could produce identification during a traffic stop for speeding.

Officers say the vehicle they were traveling in was going 60 miles an hour in a 45 zone.

Police say no one could produce a valid ID.

The men were taken to jail and turned over to the border patrol.

Meanwhile the first two people police arrested for trespassing in the U.S. this June are still in the Brevard County jail while the validity of their identification is disputed in court.

The city of Palm Bay has its own plan to crack down on illegal immigration issues. The city hopes to pass an ordinance fining businesses for hiring illegal immigrants. Residents protested the plan at a city meeting that went well into the night this week. The ordinance is up for a vote on August 17th.
