Louisiana State Police arrested Jose Aluarado-Montiel, 54, of Austell, Ga., Sunday after he was caught driving a vehicle while he had a blood alcohol level that was more than three times the legal limit.

According to an arrest affidavit, State Police received numerous calls about an erratically driven black 2007 GMC Sierra traveling eastbound on Interstate 20. Callers reported the vehicle was all over the roadway, almost causing several crashes.

Police traveled behind the vehicle on I-20 at the 124 milepost and observed the vehicle crossing the center line several times.

During a traffic stop, police made contact with Aluarado-Montiel, the driver, who was identified with a piece of Mexican identification. According to the affidavit, he was unsteady on his feet, almost falling. His eyes were red and watery, his speech was very slurred and he had an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and person.

He was unable to perform field sobriety tests and submitted to a breathalyzer test, which showed his blood alcohol level to be 0.253 grams percent – more than three times the legal limit.

Police were unable to locate a driver’s license on Aluarado-Montiel, who then told police he was in the country illegally.

Police located several empty beer cans in the vehicle, including a 24-ounce Bud Light beer can that was cold to the touch and three-fourths full.

He was arrested and booked at Ouachita Correctional Center on charges of DWI, illegal operation of a vehicle in the U.S., improper lane usage, no driver’s license and open container.
