LEGISLATION known as the Dream Act is expected to reach the Senate floor in the next few days for a vote that, if passed, would allow an estimated 1.3 million students who are undocumented to become legal U.S. residents.
Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois, chief proponent of the act, is expected to offer the Dream Act as an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization bill, which is currently being debated in the Senate.
As outlined in the bill, those who are undocumented and have lived in the U.S. at least five years, were under 16 at time of entry, have graduated high school and can demonstrate a good moral character have the right to apply for “conditionedâ€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
