Bond denied illegal immigrant in Kosciusko kidnapping case

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.

Bond has been denied for an illegal immigrant charged with kidnapping involving a 12-year-old girl.

Attala County Deputy Zelie Shaw says a hold also was placed today (Wednesday) on 21-year-old Misael Popoca Sotelo (my-seal papa-co sotee-yo) of Kosciusko by immigration officials because the Mexican native was in the country illegally.

No trial date was set for Sotelo, who did not enter a plea on the charge in circuit court. The case was expected to be presented to the next grand jury session.

The girl, who is now back with family, had been reported missing on January 2nd.

Attala County authorities say Sotelo apparently realized he was wanted by authorities and put the girl on a bus for Durant.

The girl, a 6th-grader from Kosciusko Junior High School, was picked up by Durant police. She was questioned and then returned to her mother's custody.

Sotelo was arrested Friday at a Jackson motel. He was being held today in the Attala County Jail.
