Police Chase Caught on Tape

Driver trying to smuggle illegal immigrants

LA JOYA--- An alleged smuggler leads police on chase, and it's all caught on tape.

The chase happened Friday in La Joya. Police tell NEWSCHANNEL 5 they got word that a red pick up truck and several other vehicles had made several stops to pick up illegals in the Tierra Blanca area. Police caught up them and tried to pull the driver over, but the driver refused, and a chase gave way.

When the driver finally stopped about twenty people jumped from the bed of the truck and ran.

One woman tried to get away, but ended up getting caught in a barbwire fence. Police escorted her out. The woman later fainted and had to receive medical attention.

Five illegal aliens are now in custody, but more than a dozen got away.
