Mexicans Go Home: Vandals paint 'hate' message on billboard

Vandals paint hate message on billboard

Vandals recently spray-painted a hateful message — “Mexicans Go Home” — on an interstate billboard.

Officials with Lamar Advertising say they are working to remove the message as soon as possible.

The vandalism appears to have occurred sometime Friday evening or Saturday morning on a billboard facing I-85 North near Bessemer City.

Jarrett Gates, an account executive with Lamar Advertising, said he received an email about 7 a.m. Monday from Pastor Tim Barrett of Christ Worship Center in Gaston County.

Barrett asked Gates to look into the vandalism as soon as possible, writing, “It must be very offensive to anyone who is from Mexico, and it’s very offensive to me as well."

The billboard in question is fairly low to the ground, which may have made it easier for vandals to climb onto it, Gates said.
Less than a month ago, another Lamar billboard in Albemarle was spray-painted with “KKK,” he said.

“I just get so sick of things like this,” Gates said.

The defaced I-85 billboard will be replaced with an advertisement from Comfort Suites, according to Lamar Advertising.

I don't consider this a hate message. That is what illegal Mexicans must do. Any action to stop the Mexican invasion is valid.
Illegal immigration is a serious problem compared to a virus or a plague if we don't fight it on time the consequences would be catastrophic.

Yes it's a hate message. It should say "ILLEGALS GO HOME."

I do not see this as a 'Hate Message' anymore than I would consider someone spray painting "Germans Go Home" or "Iraqis Go Home" on a wall in France or Kuwait during their invasions.

This is becoming the sentiment more and more with ordinary citizens. They are tired of the unimpeded invasion of our country. Hate message? No. Public sentiment? Yes.

If I was a Mexican that was here legally, I would consider it hateful. Well, at the very least extremely offensive (JMHO).

I believe the person or persons that wrote this fully intended to insult and offend Mexicans. Great thing about America, you are free to offend anyone you like and if you want Mexicans to go home to their own nation you are free to say so and Congress is free to legislate it so.

Mexican is a nationality and a diverse nationality at that. Although it is said to be a very racist country that instills resentments that are being carried over into our country. Mexico has encouraged it's poorest citizens to "migrate" and send money back to Mexico turning their poorest and least productive class into their largest money producers. Look at the leaders and highly placed politicians, many are white Mexicans.

    From the University of Augsburg.

    Diversity in Mexico
    Race/Ethnicity

Mexico is an extraordinarily diverse country in ethnic and cultural terms. Over 60 different indigenous groups exist, many
of which maintain their own language, and they make up 10-30% of the population today, depending on the statistics one consults. These groups are concentrated in the central and southern regions of Mexico, though some also live in the northern region.
Over 60% of the Mexican population is mestizo—a mixture of Spanish and indigenous blood, and approximately 9% are of European descent. colonial period, African slaves were brought to Mexico and their descendents live in Mexico today, many of whom mixed with the indigenous people and the Spaniards. These groups were brought to the coastal areas of the states of Veracruz, Guerrero and Oaxaca, where strong Afro-Mexican communities exist
    today.

The indigenous and the Afro in Mexican society, and many mestizo people also experience racism to varying degrees, depending on their skin color and class background. However, many Mexicans don’t believe that racism exists in Mexico; instead they blame any
discrimination that does exist onclassism. In Mexico, racism is closely linked to classism.

This means that indigenous and Afro-Mexican people are the darkest-skinned and the poorest people in Mexico. The
discrimination these groups experience is based on skin color, socio-economic class, and cultural background.
