Minutemen fighting illegal immigration

By: JEFF SCHWILK - Commentary

When we started the San Diego Minutemen 15 months ago with a few retired Marine friends and concerned citizens, our goal was to bring attention to our wide-open southern border and the problems that it creates in our communities. We never dreamed we would end up in such a war as we find ourselves in now, for the very future of our nation.

One of the biggest obstacles to securing our borders and enforcing federal laws is the large, powerful and well-financed illegal alien/open borders lobby, often led by extremist Latino activists here in San Diego County. With PC-sounding names such as Border Angels; American Friends Service Committee; Coalition for Peace, Justice and Dignity; California Rural Legal Assistance; and, of course, the American Civil Liberties Union, it's no wonder they have been able to influence local leaders during a long campaign of propaganda and public pressure to make their beloved illegal immigrants, mostly from Mexico, virtually untouchable to law enforcement.

Some alien supporters call their coordinated campaign "reconquista" ---- the taking back of land in the American Southwest for Mexico, since it was once inhabited by Mexican Indians centuries ago. Some of these groups also have strong socialist ties and can be very racist toward Americans. Learn more about these groups at SDIllegalActivists.com. We are also battling a local biased media that often refuse to see the important differences between legal immigrants and those who come here illegally. Unfortunately, a disproportionate number of illegal aliens who come here have serious criminal backgrounds, violent gang affiliations and dangerous diseases from Latin America.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our hundreds of volunteers and thousands of supporters, along with brave leaders like Rick Roberts, Roger Hedgecock, Brian Bilbray, Mark Wyland and the local Hispanic Americans of You Dont Speak For Me, San Diegans are now wide awake to the numerous dangers of an unchecked illegal immigration system that threatens our schools, health care and justice systems, as well as our safety, jobs and quality of life.

We all realize San Diego was created by immigrants and we all come from immigrant families. We will always welcome legal immigrants from all over the world who come here the right way, learn the American language (English), respect our laws, citizens, and values, and play by the rules. Obviously, assimilation is the key to maintaining our melting pot tradition.

We at SDMM will continue to demand a secure border and strong enforcement of immigration laws, especially against law-breaking employers who hire illegal aliens for cheap labor, which creates the magnet for the continuous flow of economic refugees from poor countries. We have made tremendous gains in the past year reversing this invasion and anarchy, but there is so much more to do. We must keep the pressure on our local, state and federal governments and law enforcement. See all of our ongoing projects and accomplishments at . We will continue to spread the truth and work with local authorities to help make San Diegos communities safer for all our residents.

If you came home and found it had been broken into by people who took your possessions and handed you a bill for their medical treatment while they were wiring $23 Billion out of the country, you would call the authorities and have them removed. The Minutemen are making those calls to the authorities -- and more power to them! "

Where are the statistics for increased criminal behavior? I've yet to meet a "gangster migrant". What about the unnamed dangerous diseases? Where are the data to support such fear mongering claims?
