List worries both sides of immigration debate

Utah officials, activists worry document may have come from state records

SALT LAKE CITY — Advocates of tougher immigration enforcement joined civil rights activists in condemning circulation this week of a list of alleged illegal immigrants to Utah state agencies and news organizations, saying it sent the wrong message to violate privacy laws in seeking to enforce immigration laws.

An msnbc.com-NBC News report By Alex Johnson of msnbc.com and Richard Piatt of NBC station KSL-TV of Salt Lake City.
..The 30-page document included addresses, phone numbers and birthdates for about 1,300 people it said were in the country illegally. Some of the names — almost all of which were of Latino origin — also were accompanied by Social Security numbers and medical information, such as “baby due 4/4/10.â€

    Fear works

I"m wondering how they put the list together though?

I think as the problem gets worse you will see more of this sort of thing up to and including real vigilante actions by unsavory groups.

I"m surprised it hasn't happened yet.

But it will happen if the govt doesn't get this fixed. And the clock is ticking.

People taking the law into their own hands. Somebody could put us posting here on a white supremacist list too. So when the lawless avengers come will they stop shooting when they see some of us are brown or they will just consider us as collaborators and shoot away?

It sounds like people contributing to the list are legal Mexican Americans engaging in punitive acts over petty greviances. I am trying to set up a reporting hotline here in Massachusetts but it focuses on employers.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Looks like pro-illegal immigration Tony Yapias has gotten plenty of front page press coverage in Utah.

I bet the authorities will find and nail whoever put that list together. It seems like they act pretty fast on people that interfere with illegals. Possible end of this story: illegals on the list will receive an apology from wherever the list originated from and the person who put it together will likely be charged with half a dozen serious crimes and sent to prison for a few years.
