Maricopa deputies to start holiday DUI crackdown

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is joining other Valley agencies this holiday season to search for impaired drivers on Valley streets.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio has instructed all deputies to arrest any intoxicated undocumented immigrants and take them directly to jail when found driving under the influence.

"Recently, there have been a significant number of high profile cases involving drunk illegal aliens that have killed innocent drivers," said Arpaio.

According to the Sheriff, there will be no cite and release option.

With the influx of inmates convicted of DUI, Arpaio said he's in the process of expanding Tent City so that there is always a vacancy for every impaired driver.

Two high profile crashes recently have resulted in two deaths, both victims killed by drunk drivers. The other similarity in these crashes were that the alleged drunk drivers were illegal immigrants. Those deaths have now become Sheriff Joe Arpaio's latest fight in the border battle. He's ordered his deputies to crackdown on illegal immigrants during DUI patrols.
