tool goes here The U.S. Border Patrol interrupted an attempt to smuggle more than $3 million in marijuana and Ecstasy into the U.S. north of Maple Falls early Friday morning, March 27.

Agents were investigating a report of suspicious activity in that area and found a backpack with a large quantity of Ecstasy inside, according to the Border Patrol.

While following footprints that led into Canada, the agents found several more duffel bags containing marijuana.

The agents enlisted U.S. Customs and Border Protection to do an aerial search and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to search the Canadian side of the border. No suspects were located.

The bags contained more than 140 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of $720,000, and 200,000 Ecstasy tablets, worth about $2.5 million.
