    MO-Illegal faces gun charge

    Illegal immigrant faces gun charge
    A Mexican national remained in federal custody Sunday after authorities charged him late last week with illegally possessing a shotgun.

    Authorities detained Carlos Rios-Rodriguez, 23, while investigating a gang-related drive-by shooting earlier this month, according to federal court records. Rios-Rodriguez, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest under a sweatshirt, acknowledged to Kansas City police that he was in the U.S. illegally and had handled a 20-gauge sawed-off shotgun that officers also recovered.

    Rios-Rodriguez will appear in federal court for a bond hearing Wednesday.
