ILLEGAL INVASION: Is Bradley County the "Easy Road" to Freedom?
by B. Jay Johnson

Terry Olsen is a Chattanooga immigration attorney, and what he says may shock you. Olsen says Bradley County is considered the easiest place in southeast Tennessee for an illegal alien to get a driver's license, a marriage license and various other documents. The attorney who specializes in legal immigration told the Bradley News that the way Hamilton County deals with illegal aliens compared to the way they are dealt with here in Bradley County is like "night and day."

"On the surface, especially among the internationals," said Olsen, "the perception is Bradley County is very lenient with illegals." Olsen said illegal aliens from surrounding counties, including Hamilton, will travel to Bradley County to get their driver's license. He said they obtain the licenses with little or no trouble at all. "Everyone knows where to head," said Olsen, "to Bradley County." Why so, you might ask? Olsen said he thinks he has some of the answers. "Being a smaller place than Chattanooga, the Cleveland area seems to be less worried about whether immigrants are here legally or not," said Olsen. Olsen also said an economic mindset also plays a role in the way Bradley County deals with illegals. He said that by the year 2011, 50 percent of the current workforce in Bradley County and the surrounding areas will be gone. He said that by then, immigrant workers will be needed more than ever. Olsen thinks that is why Bradley County is perceived as a "friendly haven" to the illegals. "Because Cleveland is a smaller community," said Olsen, "when people retire it is harder to attract new workers." Recently, here in Bradley County, an illegal alien was arrested after plowing a car through the fence at the home of Otis Eaton in South Cleveland. The man was charged with drunk driving, yet he was allowed to post bond and was released from jail. That comes as no surprise to Olsen. He said the illegals are treated like legalized citizens in the Bradley County judicial system. Not so in Hamilton County he says. "Judge Moon will detain anyone he suspects is here illegally," said Olsen. Olsen said that is not being done here in Bradley County. Olsen also revealed that illegals who live in Bradley County call him on a regular basis offering to pay money to him if he can make arrangements for them to become legal citizens. "I would say I get one or two calls a week from an illegal alien in Bradley County asking for assistance," said Olsen. "I tell them, I can't help you." Olsen said he also has employers who come to him seeking help in legalizing their workers. He said he tells them there is nothing he can do for them. Olsen is speaking out at a time when Davidson County, Tennessee has implemented a program called 287(g). The program provides federal training to local law enforcement agencies. Officers are trained on how to detect, detain and take part in the deportation process of illegal aliens. So far, between 3,000 and 4,000 inmates incarcerated in Davidson County have been processed for deportation. Bradley County Sheriff Tim Gobble and Cleveland Police Chief Wes Snyder both have expressed interest in establishing the 287(g) program here in Bradley County. However, the program is difficult to attain. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has requested participation in 287(g), but the agency was told it could take six months for approval. Olsen said that on average an illegal alien annually makes $33,000. He said many pay taxes on that income. Does that entitle them to the social services they receive? "We complain our illegals are using the system, but we say the same thing about the homeless and the low-income," said Olsen. Olsen believes the illegals are contributing to southeast Tennessee's economy. He said that cannot be ignored, but he said something has to be done to stem the tide of illegals seeking refuge in the area. "There is only so far you can go and so much you can provide to them," said Olsen. Olsen has provided counsel to Ocoee Regional Multicultural Services. He said he still provides counsel to Cleveland city leaders and has told them they will continue to see a rise in the population of illegal aliens. Despite his assertions that Bradley County is lenient when it comes to illegal citizenship, Olsen places the blame on the federal government. "We have not legislated to secure the borders," said Olsen, "or found ways to allow the workers to lawfully be here." He also said state laws are trumpeting federal laws and that is only making the problem more complicated. At a time when so many people are saying that the United States is losing the immigration battle, Olsen is not so quick to rush to judgment. "We deported 200,000 illegal aliens in the past year," said Olsen, "that's pretty good if you ask me." So why has Bradley County become a "friendly haven" for illegal aliens? In next week's report, we're going straight to the top of Bradley County government in search of answers. You don't want to miss our next Special Report.

Cleveland, TN has sadly fallen victim to illegal aliens, their enablers, their profiteers, their supporters and left the citizens of Cleveland vulnerable to illegal aliens and their criminal activities. Where is Mayor Tom Rowland, Mayor Gary Davis, Police Chief Wes Snyder, Sheriff Tim Gobble? What about the role of the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce under Jerry Bohannon and the Ocoee Regional Multicultural Services Center under Rev. Daniel Sylverston? Where is the City leadership to demagnetize Cleveland, TN? What about the Day Labor site/sites?
