Gov. Bill Haslam is working with lawmakers on legislation to crack down on illegal immigrants, although he said he wants to be careful not to scare away foreign companies like Nissan and Volkswagen that have made a big impact on Tennessee.

According to The Chattanooga Times Free Press, the legislation includes:

• an Arizona-style plan that would allow state and local police to enforce immigration laws.

• a bill that would require drivers' license tests be given in English unless a person can prove they are in the country legally.

• a requirement that businesses use E-verification to check workers' status.

• efforts to prevent illegal immigrants from accessing state services.
